STUTTGART, Germany – Mahle GmbH is the next automotive supplier entering the e-bike market with the acquisition of Spanish Ebikemotion Technologies S.L. With this e-bike drive system, HMI and connectivity expert, Mahle strengthens its activities “on the market of electrically powered bicycles”. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The Stuttgart-based company Mahle is said to be one of the 20 largest automotive suppliers in the world. With this take-over of Ebikemotion Technologies another leading automotive supplier is entering the promising LEV mobility market. At Eurobike 2018 Hall A1 was already packed with several automotive suppliers. They introduced their latest and heavily expanding e-mobility ideas and solutions to the market. The future will proof whether Mahle’s market entrance is too late or not.
“The global market for pedelecs will continue to grow rapidly. Our aim is to expand our activities in this area and establish ourselves as a systems provider,” said Mahle Group’s Chairman of the Management Board and CEO Dr. Jörg Stratmann.
Employing around 30 people and based in Spanish Palencia, Ebikemotion Technologies has comprehensive know-how of systems and components as well as proven competence in connectivity.
The main advantage of Ebikemotion Technologies is the use of compact and lightweight rear wheel hub motors, batteries, electronic control units, and other pedelec components. They compact design allows for a hidden integrated into the bicycle. The hardware comes with an integrated connectivity solution featuring mobile and web-based apps. The Ebikemotion Technologies system is particularly suitable for specification in lightweight racing bikes, gravel bikes, and city bikes. According to an industry observer; “the Spanish company is one of the so-called ‘hidden champions’ in this industry.”
Today Ebikemotion Technologies is already suppling several well-known customers and brands, like Orbea. They were one of the first using Ebikemotion Technologies’ drivetrain system on a (e-)roadbike.
