Yamaha has announced that its e-bike motor production will be transferred to a new wholly-owned MBK Industrie factory in France, detailing its new PWseries S2 drive unit in the announcement. Due in part to the company's goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2050, but also to bring its logistics closer to the core of its European e-bike business, Yamaha has reduced the company's efforts by shifting production of its PW series drives from Japan to a French factory. The described "needs to address expensive and recently unreliable logistics operations."
For a growing number of OEM partners, lead times have dropped "substantially", and with more localised supply, packaging and waste reduction in inland EU logistics can be optimised.
The PWseries S2 drive unit will be the focal point of the initial production effort, and the launch of the motor is significantly lighter than the current best-selling PWseries ST, weighing just 2.85kg, with more power. On the market since 2018. With more clearance and a thinner profile, the motor delivers 75Nm of instantaneous torque.
The new ISIS bottom bracket interface provides increased rigidity - and is fully compatible with the front dual chainring, the new Yamaha drive unit opens up even greater possibilities for e-bike manufacturers. This versatile drive can meet a variety of riding needs, making it ideal for everything from commuting and general everyday use to country hikes, weekend tours and mountain trail riding.
Comes with a new 3-inch LCD Display B interface, a unit designed for easy-to-use, high-visibility information on the saddle. Carry a USB port and the head unit is able to power other devices on the go. To prevent theft, it can be installed more permanently with bolts or removed with a single tap from its bracket.
MBK Industrie's St Quentin factory currently produces more than 80,000 Yamaha motorcycles, scooters and recreational vehicles a year. With ISO 14001 (Environmental Protection) and ISO 9001 (Quality Improvement) certifications - MBK Industrie is ready to offer EU customers the highest level of service.
In addition to supplying to OEMs, Yamaha also has its own product line that will be brought to market through European dealers.
