Statistics released by the German statistical agency Statista on the 16th showed that the European Union imported nearly 5 million bicycles from non-EU countries and regions last year, worth about 930 million euros. This is an increase of 35% over the previous year. However, despite many media reports last year that Europe had set off a "Chinese bicycle fever", bicycles from mainland China only ranked second in the EU's imports.
Statistics show that 78% of EU bicycle imports in 2020 will come from seven countries and regions. Among them, the country with the largest import volume is Cambodia, accounting for nearly 24%. The main reason is that bicycle manufacturers in Taiwan region of China set up multiple factories there and then export their products to European and American countries.
Bicycles imported from mainland China accounted for 17% of the total EU imports, ranking second. As the EU imposes dumping duties on Chinese bicycles, the export of Chinese bicycles to the EU has slowed down. Taiwan of China ranks third (11%). Followed by Laos (8%), Turkey (7%), the Philippines (6%) and Sri Lanka (5%)
