German E-Bike Sales Close To One Million Units

BERLIN, Germany – Thriving e-bike sales and favourable weather conditions have resulted in a positive mood on the German market. For the first half of 2018, the German industry association ‘Zweirad Industry Verband’ (ZIV) estimates an increase in e-bike sales as at the same level as in January-June 2017. At that time the e-bike market expanded by 19 percent.

The continuing growth of the market is thanked to the ongoing electrification of all model groups, attractive products in terms of design as well as further developments in engine and battery technology and connectivity. Also, innovative business models such as leasing or in the logistics sector for the rapidly increasing popularity of e-bikes in Germany.

 

The ZIV also reports that not only the e-bike is responsible for the positive mood on the market. A wide range of technological developments increased demand for German made products. Connectivity is mentioned by ZIV as “one of the mean reason for the growing usage of bicycles for mobility.’’
