With the popularity of shared electric scooters, a new trend has formed abroad, of course, thanks to the efforts of companies such as Lime and Bird. The shared electric scooters they provide are not only easy to use, but also affordable. Of course, they are currently facing a serious problem. These electric scooters are being eliminated and replaced at an alarming rate. Many scooters cannot be used after being on the road for less than 3 months. Some analysts predict that if the company's electric scooters cannot continue to be profitable long enough, they will soon be eliminated.
Now, superwalking, a startup from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), has developed a smart, self-repairing industrial-grade electric scooter, which may become a breakthrough point for a shared personal electric car to be transformed into a fully sustainable transportation tool.
Assaf Bidman, CEO of Super Walker, said that by 2050, transportation demand in urban centers in the United States will increase nearly three times. In just 30 years, where do you plan to put three times the number of cars or people? This will be a big problem.
For many years, experts have been working on the concept of carpooling, believing to increase road space more effectively. Although services such as ride-sharing and Uber have played a mitigating role, their returns are limited. The study found that the highest efficiency of carpooling is only slightly higher than 2 passengers per car. At this point, more passengers will actually increase congestion, and traffic congestion caused by walking a few more miles to pick them up.
Therefore, carpooling is helpful, but it cannot be used as a single solution. On the contrary, Assaf believes that the answer lies in personal transportation such as electric scooters and scooters that are close to human size. This kind of small car can completely replace the car throughout the journey, and can also improve the efficiency of other transportation solutions, such as carpooling and public transportation.
