According to data from the Spanish Bicycle Industry Association, the Spanish electric bicycle market has grown substantially for the second consecutive year. In 2019, the sales of electric bicycles increased by 28.3% to more than 140,000, and the average retail unit price rose by 11%, slightly higher than 2,400 euros, far exceeding the price that Spaniards have been buying ordinary bicycles.
In 2019, electric bicycles accounted for 11.3% of the total 1.261 million bicycles in the Spanish bicycle market. In the past few years, the electric bicycle market has expanded rapidly, reaching 54.5% in 2018. Data in 2019 show that electric bicycles are growing steadily.
In 2020, the sales volume of electric bicycles in Spain was 2.12635 million (Germany: 1.95 million). Compared with sales of 1.43 million electric bicycles in 2019, this is equivalent to an increase of nearly 50% (1.4 million in Germany).
The market share of electric bicycles in the entire Spanish bicycle market has risen to 13.6% of all complete bicycle sales (Germany: 39%), making it the third largest market segment after mountain bikes and children's bicycles. The share of electric bicycles in sales has also increased significantly. In 2020, electric bicycles generated 562 million euros, which is nearly 42% of total bicycle sales. This is due to an average unit price of nearly 2,650 euros for electric bicycles, an increase of more than 10% compared to the same period last year.
Remarks: The Spanish Bicycle Industry Association (AMBE for short) AMBE is composed of 38 major Spanish bicycle manufacturers, importers and distributors, which together hold 54% of the Spanish bicycle market.
