According to foreign media reports, Shimano mentioned in its financial results announcement for the first half of 2021 that its bicycle-related sales in the first half of 2021 were 212 billion yen and operating income was 58 billion yen. Compared with the same period in 2020, it has increased by 73.4%, and the operating income of the bicycle division has increased by 152.1%.

In the first half of 2021, Shimano’s fishing equipment sales increased by 38.4% to 52 billion yen. Company-wide net sales increased by 65.2% to 264.7 billion yen, and operating income increased by 144% to 70 billion yen.

Shimano raised its 2021 full-year net sales forecast to 500 billion yen (US$4.5 billion), a 9.8% increase from the previous forecast, and its operating income forecast to 124.5 billion yen, an increase of 18.6% from its earlier forecast. In contrast, Shimano’s net sales in 2020 were 378 billion yen, and the figure for 2019 was 290 billion yen.

In an overview of the bicycle market, Shimano stated that demand in all markets remains high. It also said that some factories have been temporarily closed due to the epidemic and are currently open. However, people’s interest and demand for bicycles and fishing continues to rise, and the Shimano Group will increase the production capacity of its factories in Japan and overseas. And said that it will invest about 300 million U.S. dollars to upgrade the factory in Japan and the new factory in Singapore.
