According to foreign media reports, in 2022, Germany's electric bicycle production reached a record high, an increase of 1.72 million vehicles (an increase of 20%from 2021), and its sales reached a new peak of 2.2 million (10%from 2021). The key driver of this growth is the obvious trend of buying a second bicycle. In addition to urban bicycles or electric bicycles, consumers usually choose a second sports or freight bicycle. Electric bicycles occupy a 48%market share in Germany. According to Burkhard Stork, the general manager of Ziv, the sales of electric bicycles this year are expected to exceed non -motorized bicycles for the first time. In some product categories such as mountain bicycles and freight bicycles, electric bicycles have obviously dominated.
The average sales price (including VAT) of all sales channels and models of electric bicycles is 2,800 euros. The data includes an increase in high -priced freight bicycle share, thereby pushing the average price as a whole. At present, demand has changed. Today, customers need higher -quality components, such as gearburies, brakes, tires and lighting, as well as powerful batteries, suspension, application connection, good design and long service life.
ZIV estimates that by the end of the year, the total amount of electric bicycles in Germany will be 9.8 million, which means that the number of electric bicycles driving on the road is far more than 10 million. In terms of health benefits and the change of liquidity, electric bicycles use more frequently and farther distance.
Electric mountain bicycles have surpassed electric hiking bicycles and become the most popular electric bicycle type. This transition occurred in 2021 and continued until 2022. In 2022, 836,000 electric mountain bicycles were sold (increased 23%over 2021). In contrast, electric hiking bicycles were 616,000 (-4%compared to 2021). In addition to electric mountain bicycles, the most demand growth is sports electric bicycles, such as highway cars, gravel and fitness vehicles, as well as electric cargo bicycles and electric mountain bicycles.
In 2022, there were 1.45 million imported electric bicycles in Germany, of which about 69%of the imports from EU countries, and imports from Asia rose slightly to 27%. This is due to the expansion of production bases in the European Union/neighboring EU countries, the unlimited restrictions on customs within the European Union, and the development of anti -dumping taxes on electric bicycles imported from China.
About 98%of electric bicycles were exported to EU countries and European free trade zones. The Netherlands is still the most important exporter, with 139,000 units, accounting for 24%, but this decreases significantly compared with 209,000 vehicles accounted for 34%in 2021. Followed by Austria and France, each with 12%each, Switzerland accounted for 11%, an increase of 9%compared to 2021, Belgium accounted for 11%compared to 2021, and Italy accounted for 6%as the same as in 2021.
