AGUEDA, Portugal – At the Eurobike show, held earlier this month, Fritz Jou said that the production at his new bicycle production facility in Portugal has started. This is earlier than expected. However, the facility is not yet fully operational as brand new equipment is still being installed.
FJ Bikes Europe Lda, as the company is officially named, started the assembly of bicycles already last November. But, with the building ready and the first assembly lines installed FJ Bikes Europe is not yet in full production mode. This is expected for the end of August, beginning September as the holidays are over and as more equipment has been installed.
That Fritz Jou invested in a facility in Portugal has a number of reasons. Among them is of course close to market production. However, with the provisional dumping measures on e-bikes imported from China now being imposed, the company’s new facility in Europe becomes even more important.
At Eurobike CEO Fritz Jou and Managing Director Nuno Faria of FJ Bikes Europe Lda said that a brand new painting facility as well as a fully computerized and automated warehouse are currently being installed at the Agueda plant, at the heart of Bike Valley Portugal. Once that is running smoothly the factory located in Bike Valley Portugal is expected to be fully operational after the holiday season; end of August, beginning September.
