Shimano STEPS’s latest electric bike system is now ready to power cargo bikes across the city. A new type of electric bicycle system dedicated to cargo bicycles is specifically designed to provide power for heavy loads.

STEPs DU-EP800-CRG and DU-E6100-CRG motors are the core of the system, with built-in cargo-specific firmware and other innovative functions to get the job done. Both drives will be available this summer.

The maximum output torque of DU-EP800-CRG is 85Nm, which can be achieved in boost and traction modes. The size of DU-E6100-CRG is slightly larger than EP800-CRG, and the maximum output torque is 60Nm.

The Shimano STEPS E-Cargo system can push heavy objects weighing up to 250kg-pedals are dreamlike. When you go up or up the mountain, it provides you with a safe and controllable booster. Even when you are just pushing a truck down the street, you can also lend a helping hand.

Like all Shimano city electric bicycle motors, both DU-EP800-CRG and DU-E6100-CRG have Eco, Normal and High modes, which can be customized through the Shimano E-TUBE app-even if you are on the go. Both provide fully automatic shifting functions, allowing you to focus on driving and traffic conditions instead of gears.

Both drive units are compatible with Shimano's 630Wh, 514Wh or 408Wh batteries. However, in a new development, Shimano also allows third-party compatibility with Trend Power and Darfon's batteries, which will provide higher-capacity batteries for long-distance travel or batteries that carry heavy loads.

The drive unit is compatible with Shimano’s existing gear systems, such as Nexus internal hub gears or standard derailleur/flywheels. Shimano’s braking system has been approved for use on cargo bikes. A complete list of compatible components can be found on Shimano's website.
